Carolyn was a featured speaker at ZRT Lab's "Advanced Female BHRT" conference located in Nashville, TN on March 28-29, 2008. She also presented at a similar ZRT conference titled "BHRT and Beyond" in Portland, OR, on July 10-12, 2008. July 30 - August 1, 2009, Carolyn attended "Boot Camp" at the Loomis Institute in Madison, WI, with Irene Dougherty, LAc. The Loomis Institute teaches the basics and advanced work regarding enzyme therapy.
May 13-17, 2009, Carolyn attended a Sound Health Conference in Albany, Ohio, titled "Breaking the Sound Barriers of Disease." It is exciting to understand how frequencies can affect our bodies in a positive way!
February 28, 2009, Carolyn attended a conference in Chicago with Marty Rhea titled, "The Future of the Clinic" by Dr. Jeffrey Bland Dr. Bland had just flown from Washington, DC, where he attended the Health Care Summit and had a special invitation to the White House to discuss changes in medicine to include holistic, functional medicine interventions.
Carolyn audited the Level One & Two LOOMIS DIGESTIVE HEALTH SPECIALIST PROGRAM in Chicago in September 2008. She plans to audit Level Three & Four in Kansas City April 2009 and attend an ADVANCED SKILL ENHANCEMENT SEMINAR in Branson in March 2009. Carolyn has been a Loomis Digestive Health Specialist via the Loomis Institute of Enzyme Nutrition since September 2003.
Carolyn attended a BioAcoustic Focus Lab with Marty Rhea at SoundHealth in Ohio October 2008. The lab is designed to prepare students to accurately assess a client and the client's reactions to low frequency sound as well as use this assessment to develop an individualized sound presentation strategy for clients. ZRT Laboratory invited Carolyn to participate in their exhibit at the 2008 American Academy of Nurse Practitioners 23rd National Conference. This was held June 26 - July 1, 2008 in Washington, DC. She will share her expertise in evaluating for male and female hormone imbalances using saliva and bloodspot testing.
Carolyn attended the Defeat Autism Now and Autism One conference held in Chicago in May 2008. She is evaluating her clients on the autism spectrum of disorders and finding imbalances generally not assessed for in allopathic medicine. Addressing these imbalances is making some great improvements in the lives of many of her clients.
The Defeat Autism Now conference was held in Washington, DC, April 7-10, 2006. Carolyn attended the Defeat Autism Now Physician training to enable her to follow the Defeat Autism Now protocols in assessing/treating those on the pervasive developmental disease spectrum (PDD). Carolyn attended this venue with Mary Petersen, RN. Mary lives in the Des Moines area and is a parent of an autistic son who is now verbal, being mainstreamed into his kindergarten class and reading at a 3rd grade level. He was not speaking at age 4. Mary believes his phenomenal improvement has mainly come from boosting his nutritional status and detoxifying heavy metals from his body.
Carolyn has attended and is a member of the International College of Integrative Medicine's Certification in Clinical Metal Toxicology course. This was held on March 22-24, 2007 in Cincinnati, OH.
Recent Advances in the Use of Iodine in Medical Practice was held in Scottsdale, AZ, February 8-10, 2007. Carolyn learned about the historical background of the use of iodine in medical practice as well as the misunderstandings that currently continue in its vast roles in our body's health. The role of iodine in breast disease will also be addressed. Carolyn has been evaluating iodine levels in her practice for the past 5 years and has found interesting correlations in her patient's health status associated with low iodine levels. She is now evaluating for the toxic halogens bromine & fluorine which can interfere with the use of iodine in our body as well as with thyroid function.
The Institute for Functional Medicine's "Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice" for an intensive one-week course in Dallas, Texas in March 2006. Carolyn attended this venue with Sue Horton, owner of Central Iowa Compounding and two other Central Iowa physicians.

In April 2010, Marty completed training to become a Loomis Digestive Health Specialist.
Ongoing education for Marty includes Doctor of Naturopathy, Master Herbalist, Certified Nutrition Consultant, and Certified Health Specialist through Trinity College of Natural Health in Indiana.
In May 2010, Marty participated as a speaker in a parents' panel discussion at the local chapter of The Compassionate Friends. She was featured as a parent of a child who died of suicide.
